SLEEPING BEAUTIES - DESIGN STUDIO

“Non-places” rarely appear on postcards, yet they are planned or unplanned components of the urban fabric. They present themselves as leftover spaces—such as brownfields, vacant properties, or traffic islands. Often unused, they nevertheless act as initiators of transformation processes.

In the course “SLEEPING BEAUTIES – MAPPING HIDDEN POTENTIALS,” we approached these neglected non-places as what they truly are: places with their own histories. In order to analyze these sleeping beauties and communicate their complex, multi-layered situations, we developed suitable methods of representation.

The desired goal is to compile the results and tools of the analysis into a catalog that can serve to better understand changes in our environment.
